A family charity rooted in Billerica, Massachusetts

Four at our heart. Six around the table. A whole town showing up.

Community Caregivers US began when two teenage sisters started shopping for their grandparents and older neighbors during COVID. What started with a family helping a few neighbors became a community built on real connections, practical help, and kindness that keeps moving.

The idea that started it all

When a neighbor knows your name, help feels closer.

During the isolation of COVID, Deb and her daughters helped older neighbors get groceries and stay connected. With permission, seniors who were feeling alone were invited to call one another. Those calls grew into friendships. Over time, neighbors began checking in, shopping for one another, and showing up when snow or a hard week made life more difficult.

That is still the heart of Community Caregivers US: build caring connections close to home, one small act at a time.

“If we all simply do a little, it equals a whole lot!”

A family story, growing year by year

The Core Four, with Mom and Dad beside us

2020 · The beginning

Teen sisters Alexa and Cailey began by shopping for their grandparents and older neighbors during COVID. Deb and Tommy helped the girls turn that first act of care into a family effort.

2020–2021 · Neighbors found one another

Alongside grocery help, seniors who wanted company were invited to make care calls to one another. The calls helped people feel connected and grew into friendships. Community Caregivers also organized recurring community pantry deliveries.

2022 · Town recognition

The Billerica Select Board recognized Community Caregivers with a proclamation for the family’s service to the community.

Today · Many hands, many ways to care

Volunteers continue to support older neighbors and take part in seasonal projects, holiday support, blanket drives, and Billerica Bakes for First Responders.

Everyday errands

When capacity allows, volunteers can help with grocery shopping or pharmacy pickups so a neighbor has one less thing to worry about.

Check-ins and connection

Friendly calls and introductions can help older adults feel less alone and more connected to people nearby.

Warm community connections

We work alongside local partners, including the Council on Aging, public safety departments, veterans services, the Housing Authority, and the food pantry, to help people find the next right resource.

Our volunteer boundaries: We do not provide rides, in-home care, medical care, or emergency services. Requests are reviewed individually; you do not have to be low-income to ask. Tell us what is going on and we will see whether we can help or connect you with a local resource.
